Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Forum v. Chat: Can't We All Just Get Along?

I've come to the conclusion that while the Chat Room does offer the opportunity for more direct live-time discusions, it also provides for extreme difficulty in the orderly exchange of ideas, especially when there are more than 2 people on board. During the Grok, it worked well since most of the input was about the music as it played and there was less actual "conversation" between just two people, which lent itself better to the format. The forum, however, is far superior for the orderly exchange of ideas that require more thought and a little bit more time to enter. In the Chat Room, you feel alot of pressure to get your thought out there quickly, especially if it is in response to someone else's post, in fear that if you wait too long it may be lost in a flood of non-related posts that follow the original. Here, it is much easier to make sure that what you write goes directly to the originating poster and you dont feel the need to rush anything. The chat room is more of a free form discussion whereas the Fourm is an orgainzed meeting, kind of like Scat singing vs. Classical music. Each form has its place.

It is because of these basic differences that I believe the two can live in harmony side by side. If, say, you're M.C. (full name witheld to avoid litigation) and you're coming down off a particularly moving experience with some pharmaceuticals and you feel like ranting a little, the chat room is perfect. If, however, you want to give a detailed show review, the Forum is the perfect medium for that. Hopefully, no one was worried that one might drain participants from the other, all of us should feel perfectly comfortable engaging in both.

Was it ever in question?

Dude, combination of really bad head cold and extremely slow day at work (all three of my meetings were cancelled) has left my mind wandering hither and yon. Sick? Yes, on many levels. Apologetic? Never. Dork? You know it.

Quitting is for "losers"? Um, you better flesh this out a little for me, as in define "losers". I'm very curious, since I may fall into your category of "losers".

Wow, that's far out. Me and some of the other kids are going to Gidget's surfing party tonight and froog to some crazy music. Wanna come? Moon Doggie will be there.

Phrase from 1962 that wouldn't cut it today:
Hey, look, there's a bunch of crazy chicks sitting on top of Moon Doggie's Woody!!!!

hey now! Witch Doctor, haven't thought of that one for ages. Sink the Bismarck was another one. On a sidenote, one of my Deadhead friends father was a good friend of Johnny Horton, ate dinner with him a few times in Haskell, Tx

How about this one..."They're coming to take me away hah-hah, they're coming to take me away ho-ho, he-he, hah-hah
to the funny farm, where life is beautiful ALL the time"
"THEY"RE COMING TO TAKE ME AWAY HAH-HAH!!"

"Monster Mash", & "One-eyed, One-horned, Flying Purple People Eater" are a couple of other silly songs from way back in the day.
More Johnny Horton though---"In 1814 we took a little trip,
blah-blah-blah down the might Mississip'"
